Destroy your creations!

There is something beautiful and strange about destroying your own art, and I think we should all be doing it more often. Not for any reason other than introspection. If you really put yourself into a piece of work, which is hard to avoid if you sit down with intention and make something, having it destroyed, or destroying it yourself, creates an arena of chaos and can stimulate all kinds of change. Now accidental and purposeful destruction can have very different effects. The first could be argued as more true to the chaotic nature associated with "destruction", but purposeful destruction is seemingly absurd and counter productive. It goes against our nature to destroy something we deem valuable for whatever reason, especially if this value exists because we made this thing and see it as a representation of ourselves. (see: horcrux)
For this reason, when we destroy our art, the outcome is unknown. The feelings that arise are negative at worst and cathartic at best. But this is territory that every instinct and reasonable logic tells us should be avoided. It is a dark wet cave that could have some cool things inside. There might be nothing in there, but finding new ways to explore and develop oneself is the best way I have found to stay sane and happy.
I am going to destroy a piece of my own art that I really like today (image attached). I'll post the video on my instagram and then probably write another post in a few days about how I then feel about all of this.
