Historical Narrow-casting

This task here was to create a series of images to communicate a modern concept; Facebook; to a historical figure; Genghis khan. The product was very abstract, but pushed me to think about visual communication in a unique way.

I began by researching Mongolian culture and history to become familiar with what type of imagery Genghis might recognize. I made some edits combining different photos for my initial draft. One was more serious and used stoic, monochromatic photos, while the other was more lighthearted and used artwork to tell a story.  Breaking down Facebook to its very basic form leads you to the concept of instant communication over large distances.

My first iteration was attempting to tell a story of two warriors collaborating to build an idea that would come to overtake the world; and eventually bring us into space. The marking on either end of the strip is an ancient symbol for eternal life

The final attempt was this same communication idea, but conveyed in the form of a love story. The king gives his messenger a note; and the messenger uses Facebook's capabilities to deliver the message to it's destination many miles away.
